Dr. Dre Handcuffed Outside Of His Malibu Home

Dr. Dre was put in cuffs outside of his home in Malibu. Dre’s sources say he was the target of a racist man attempting to pin a gun charge on him.

Dr. Dre was cuffed and searched outside of his own house in Malibu earlier today, reports TMZ. Police were called to the scene by a driver who had stopped in front of Dre’s house, resulting in a heated altercation.

According to sources close to Dre, the Compton mogul had driven up to his home to find another car blocking his driveway. He asked the driver to move, and he did so, but Dre’s sources say that the man proceeded to curse out Dre while he was pulling into his own driveway. They say he continued to harass Dre, prompting the Aftermath boss to pull out his phone to record the dispute. The driver apparently thought Dre was carrying a gun, and he reportedly said, “Here we go again, another black guy with a gun.” Again, this is all coming from a source connected with the veteran musician, but perhaps Dre’s footage will confirm what happened.

Upon accusing Dre of having a gun, the loitering driver called the cops, who showed up at the scene to put the hip-hop legend in cuffs and search him for a weapon. The police uncuffed him after finding nothing on his person, but the accuser was adamant that they stay put, and he reportedly demanded that he be able to carry out a citizen’s arrest against Dre

Drake Goes After Meek Mill, Barack Obama & Tory Lanez On “Summer Sixteen”

R&B Drake took a backseat tonight…

Drake took no prisoners on his new single, “Summer Sixteen.” No singing, no dancing — just bitter raps directed at anyone whom he might consider a rival. Of course, that includes Meek Mill, whom he deals with in his opening verse.

He reveals that he found out Meek Mill and Nicki Minaj were staying in the Toronto Four Seasons on the night that “Back to Back” dropped, and upon discovering the couple’s whereabouts, Drake and his crew booked a room directly above that of Meek and Nicki, and proceeded to blast “Back to Back” all night long.

Funnily enough, Meek referenced the same scenario on a diss track of his own, “War Pain,” that he released along with a new EP, 4/4 Part 2, shortly after the premiere of “Summer Sixteen.” Head here to get a detailed look at that strange coincidence.

He finishes with Meek after rapping, “You don’t have to say it louder n*gga / Trust, we heard you the first time.”

As far as the most high-profile target on Drake’s new record, that would have to Barack Obama. Hailing from north of the border, Drake obviously didn’t feel any qualms about going after the current U.S. President. “Tell Obama that my verses are like the whips that he in / They bulletproof,” raps Drake early on in his opening verse.

Why did he deliver shots against the leader of the free world? Because Obama, who has been vocal about his love for Kendrick Lamar‘s To Pimp a Butterfly, recently voiced his opinion that K-Dot would best Drake in a one-on-one battle.

Moving on to his fellow Canadians, Drake raps, “All you boys in the new Toronto want to be me a little.” Many took this, and the ensuing lines, to be something off a shot taken at Tory Lanez, whose December mixtape is titled The New Toronto.

Lanez may have created tension with Drake when he expressed his dislike of “the 6” as a nickname for Toronto — one that has, of course, been popularized by the “6 God.”

To make things even more sensational, Meek Mill called out Drake for hating on his fellow Torontonian on “War Pain”: “Tory from the 6, you hatin’ on him, Lord knows!”

It might be unfair to call them disses, but Drake also namedrops Jay Z (whose status he says he has achieved), Kanye (whose pool isn’t as big as his), and Chris Breezy (to whom he has comparable dance moves). OK, the last one was a little cruel.

Jerry Heller Sues Dr. Dre, Ice Cube & “Straight Outta Compton” For $110 Million

Jerry Heller is suing everybody involved in “Straight Outta Compton” for a huge sum.

Jerry Heller, the former manager of N.W.A., is suing all those involved in the group’s recent biopic, Straight Outta Compton, for (at least) $110 million, reports TMZ. Heller, now 75, has just filed a lawsuit against Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, the estate of Eazy-E, NBC Universal, and others for defamation and using his likeness in their film without his permission.

Heller claims that Straight Outta Compton wrongly portrayed him as “a sleazy manager who took advantage of Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, and Ice Cube.” He said that the movie lied about numerous different scenarios involving him, including him withholding a $75,000 check from Ice Cube, persuading Dre and Cube to sign misleading contracts, and getting fired by Eazy-E.

The lawsuit also accuses the film’s producers of incorporating pivotal scenes from Heller’s memoir, “Ruthless,” into the film without permission.

Heller wants $35 million in compensatory damages, $75 million in punitive damages, and then the rightful amount of the film’s profits, which he and his lawyers believe will bring the total sum to at least $110 million.

As of late September, Straight Outta Compton had grossed almost $190 million.

Dr. Dre’s Assault Of Dee Barnes Was In Original “Straight Outta Compton” Script

Dr. Dre’s 1991 assault of Dee Barnes didn’t make the final cut.

Dee Barnes’ recent op-ed in Gawker revisited her 1991 assault at the hands of Dr. Dre and raised questions about the incident’s omission from “Straight Outta Compton.” It was a reminder that, however popularly and critically acclaimed, the film is a subjective history and does not present a comprehensive account of N.W.A.’s rise to stardom.

The LA Times obtained a copy of the original script that included the assault scene in its pages. Here is their description:

In the scene, the fictional Dre, “eyes glazed, drunk, with an edge of nastiness, contempt” (per noted from the script) spots Barnes at the party and approaches her.

“Saw that [expletive] you did with Cube. Really had you under his spell, huh? Ate up everything he said. Let him diss us. Sell us out.”

“I just let him tell his story,” Barnes’ character retorts, “That’s what I do. It’s my job.”

“I thought we were cool, you and me,” Dre fires back. “But you don’t give a [expletive]. You just wanna laugh at N.W.A, make us all look like fools.”

The conversation escalates, Barnes throws her drink in Dre’s face before he attacks her “flinging her around like a rag-doll, while she screams, cries, begs for him to stop.”

Director F. Gary Gray addressed the omission in an interview last week. He emphasized that, with an 150-page script and an original editor’s cut running three and half hours long, there was no room for “side stories” that didn’t serve the film’s central narrative.

STREAM HBK SKIPPER’S NEW ALBUM, “THE THRILL”

Skipper enlists Kool John, Jay Ant, and Iamsu! for his new project, “The Thrill”.

Skipper has always been one of the most consistent members of HBK, but he’s generally operated just below the radar compared to the crews biggest names. His new project, The Thrill, could bring the rapper into the lanes of Iamsu and Sage The Gemini, as he continues to fine-tune his incredibly catchy brand of West Coast-infused rap.

Kool John, Jay Ant, CJ, and Dave Steezy, show up as features, while the and the aforementioned Su provides production among the likes of T-Scoob, Trauma Tone, and Shonuff.

The Thrill is available on iTunes now, but Skipper has made the project available on SoundCloud as well.

Dr. Dre’s First Week Sales Numbers For “Compton: The Soundtrack

To no one’s surprise, Dr. Dre’s “Compton: The Soundtrack” put up gaudy first week sales numbers.

First week sales numbers are in for Dr. Dre‘s Compton: The Soundtrack. The album moved 278,558 units, slightly surpassing the projected number of 260,000-275,000 units.

Expectations were high for the album, driven by Dre’s musical reputation, 16 years of anticipation, and star-studded features. It has not disappointed.

Despite its gaudy numbers, Compton clocked in at #2 on the charts, narrowly missing out on the top spot to country star Luke Bryan’s Kill the Lights, which garnered over 320,000 sales in its first week. The next best-selling rap album was Future’s DS2, which moved 15 thousand units in its fourth week on the charts.

To put these numbers in perspective, Drakes’s If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late moved closed to 500,000 in its first week, and Kendrick Lamar‘s To Pimp a Butterfly moved 320,000.

Dre plans to donate his portion of the album’s royalties to build a new performing arts center in Compton.

First Week Sales Projections For Dr. Dre’s “Compton: The Soundtrack”

Dr. Dre’s “Compton: The Soundtrack” is projected to do huge numbers its first week.

Dr. Dre‘s Compton: The Soundtrack dropped Friday, his first album in 16 years and his “grand finale,” and as you might expect it is projected to do huge numbers its first week.

Hits Daily Double predicts that Compton: The Soundtrack will move260,000 to 275,000 copies, not including streams. However impressive those numbers may be, the album will likely finish second on the Billboard charts behind country singer Luke Bryan’s Kill the Lights. It is possible that clever viral campaigns like the Straight Outta Compton meme could give Dre’s sales numbers a bump and put him in the top spot.

Check back at the end of the week for the final tally.

Dr. Dre & DJ Premier Spotted “Putting In Work” Together

Dr. Dre & DJ Premier link up.

DJ Premier recently posted an Instagram photo of him posing with none other than Dr. Dre in an undisclosed location. “PUTTIN’ IN WORK…#premierwuzhere,” read Premier’s caption.

Though this is definitely exciting to see, it would be best to temper our expectations here for a variety of reasons. Dr. Dre has a habit of appearing in pictures with hip hop luminaries in the studio, such as the one with Snoop Dogg a few weeks back, and we have yet to see even a glimmer of the unicorn-like Detox. Also, it’s unclear where they got together, could have just as likely been at Preme’s kid’s birthday party as in the studio.

Hopefully this is not the last we’ve heard from this pairing.
