Did Drake Take Shots At Tory Lanez On His “Summer Sixteen” Tour?

Kicking off the “Summer Sixteen” Tour, Drake wastes little time in sending some shots at Tory Lanez.

There looks to be a new chapter in the on-going feud between Toronto artists Drake & Tory Lanez. On Wednesday night, Drake’s “Summer Sixteen” Tour rolled into Austin, Texas, where the 6 God wasted little time in sending some subtle shots jabs at what people are believing is aimed at Tory Lanez.

To kick off the show, Drake performed his hit song “Summer Sixteen,” and decided to slightly alter the opening lyrics to his verse, rapping “All you boys doing fake controllas wanna be me a little?”

While the lyrics could be intended for Tyga, who recently released a “1 Of 1” song that sounds eerily similar to “Controlla,” it’s safe to say that’s not the case, and Drizzy had Tory on his mind when switching things up. Coincidentally, Tory just so happened to release a new remix over Drake’s “Controlla” a couple weeks ago, which has been receiving good feedback from fans. Add that to their already previous issues and you have yourself the latest chapter in the “New Toronto” saga.

Joe Budden Responds To Drake’s Diss On French Montana’s “No Shopping”

Joe Budden hits Drake with a crying Jordan meme after hearing the OVO boss’ diss on French Montana’s new single, “No Shopping.”

As promised, tonight’s episode of OVO Sound Radio included the premiere of French Montana’s new Drake-featuring single: “No Shopping.” News of the collab first broke in May, when French Montana shared a brief snippet of the song, during which Drake can be heard beginning his verse by rapping, “Pump, pump it up.” The line was presumed to be a shot at Joe Budden, who had recently given VIEWS a decidedly negative review on his podcast. Now that the full version of “No Shopping” is here, it’s clear that the “Pump It Up” reference was no accident. Much of Drake’s verse is directed at Budden, whom he denounces as a one-hit wonder. “You let me turn into the n*gga that you almost was,” he raps.

Drake doesn’t mention Budden by name until toward the end of his verse, when he raps, “Last week, Budden runnin’ in the room / This week sold 1.2.” See the full lyrics of Drake’s “No Shopping” verse at the bottom of the page.

Judging by his recent tweets and retweets, Budden has heard “No Shopping,” and he has already proclaimed himself to be the victor of the beef, clearly feeling that Drake’s bars on the new French Montana single don’t stand up to the two diss tracks he has already put out, starting at the end of last month with “Making a Murderer” and then another one, “Wake,” less than a week later.

Budden provided his first response to “No Shopping” by retweeting an image of a drained iPhone battery, suggesting that Drake’s latest raps are the opposite of “Charged Up.” He then posted another meme — not exactly a creative one, but a successful effort nonetheless — showing the crying Jordan face pasted onto the head of the OVO owl. Budden has since responded to a few of his followers who also agreed that Drake’s “No Shopping” response was lackluster.

Drake Shares Eulogy For Megan Flores, The Young Cancer Patient To Whom “VIEWS” Is Dedicated

Drake and Rihanna pay tribute to their devoted young fan Megan Flores, who recently lost her battle with cancer.

Yesterday (July 10), Drake revealed that Megan Flores, the adolescent girl to whom he dedicated his latest album, VIEWS, had lost her battle with cancer. Megan, known to fellow fans as OVO Megan, considered herself to be Drake’s biggest admirer, and earlier this year, the Make-A-Wish Foundation set up a meeting between Drake and Megan in the Miami hospital in which she was being treated. Drake had been in Miami as a special guest on Rihanna’s “ANTI” tour, and Rihanna also came to the hospital to meet Megan and pose for pictures with her and Drake. Rihanna, too, paid tribute to Megan on social media upon hearing of her death.

Drake & Kanye West React To The Death Of Alton Sterling

Drake pens a letter to his followers about the senseless death of Alton Sterling.

Following the death of 37-year old Alton Sterling, who was senselessly gunned down by ANOTHER police officer in Baton Rouge, Louisiana this week, the hip-hop community has once again expressed their incredible outrage & disbelief on the matter. Everyone from Meek Mill, The Game, Talib Kweli, Chuck D & more went to social media to express their emotions following the video that surfaced Tuesday night of Sterling getting shot in the back. And hours later, Drake & Kanye West decided to chime in on the situation as well.

Kanye took to twitter to post an IG link of the video footage that had the hashtags #RIPAltonSterling, #StandForSomethingOrFallForAnything. Whereas Drake on the other hand took the actual time out of his day to pen a letter to his followers expressing his concerns & emotions on the situation.

Drake & Kendrick Lamar’s “Beef” Nearly Escalated To 50 Cent & Ja Rule Proportions, According To Marcellus Wiley

The former NFL player suggests an interview that would have increased tension between the two rappers was destroyed.

Ever since Drake was mentioned in Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse, there has been speculation of a tension between the two rappers. While Drake did seem to be a bit offended by the namedrop on Kendrick’s record, the proposed bad blood between the two rappers has depended on the assumption of a number of “subliminal” disses and no concrete evidence. However, according to a new report from former NFL player and current ESPN host, Marcellus Wiley, the beef was very real, and came close to escalating exponentially due to an interview which was never aired.

“All I know is there was a beef, and all I know is I was witness to when the beef would have ignited to proportions we have not seen since Ja Rule/50, maybe even Ice Cube/N.W.A,” the host said on an episode of his ESPN podcast, not specifying which side the alleged diss came from. “Like it went there. But that was destroyed from everyone’s property. That was destroyed, that interview, that moment was destroyed. That’s all I’m gonna say. But I was there and I heard the shots fired.”

Wiley attests that what he heard came from only one of the two rappers, but he feels it would have been enough to inspire a full-fledged beef. “It was one-sided, and the other side was about to retaliate if that would’ve got out, but they destroyed the evidence. And I ain’t lying,” he said.

Jim Jones Thinks Max B Could’ve Been As Successful As Drake

Despite their past beef, Jim Jones admits that Max B could’ve been as big as Drake had he not gotten locked-up.

In 2005, Jim Jones signed fellow Harlemite Max B to his ByrdGang record label. The deal would only last for about two years, and the two rappers had been clashing heads at the time of Max’s ByrdGang departure in 2008. It became an official beef soon afterwards, especially as Max joined forces with Coke Boy French Montana, whom also had a disdain for Jones. The beef would proliferate until 2009, when Max was sent to prison, where he still remains today.

In a clip taken from a new interview with Rap Radar, Jones was asked if there is still any bad blood between him and Biggavelli, and he responded by saying that he’s not the type to speak down upon an incarcerated man. “That’s a chapter in my life that’s been gone,” he said. “I don’t even think about it no more.”

Jones went on to explain that he didn’t have anything to do with Max’s imprisonment. In fact, “I put a lot of money in that boy’s pockets,” he said. Whether or not he harbors any ill feelings toward the rapper known as The Wavy One, he clearly recognized his talent. Jones went as far to say that Max “had the chance to be big as Drake right now.”

“A lot of these artists right now that are singing and being very melodic,” said Jones. “A lot of that came from that boy’s whole catalog.” He also pointed out that Wiz Khalifa has been influenced by many elements of Max’s wavy style; “Wiz Khalifa’ll tell you right now that he studied his music word for word,” said Jones. Max B is currently serving a 75-year sentence in a New Jersey prison.

Joe Budden Praises Drake’s “4PM In Calabasas,” Says Diddy Needs To Respond

Joe Budden finally heard the “inspired” Drake he’d been missing tonight on “4PM in Calabasas.” A few lines on the song take aim at Diddy, and Budden feels the disses are hard enough to necessitate a response.

There was a flood of new music on tonight’s episode of OVO Sound Radio. It was thought that Drake would pay tribute to Gucci Mane in his DJ mix, and he took it a step further and surprised listeners with a brand new collab with the unshackled Brick Squad boss himself: “Back on Road.” A bit later, Drake’s current No. 1, “One Dance,” received a fittingly poppy remix from another Canuck in Justin Bieber. And lastly, Drake signed off by adding another installment to his storied time-sensitive city songs, this one called “4PM in Calabasas.”

The beat, produced by Frank Dukes and Vinylz with co-production from Allen Ritter, contains what sounds like the classic Bad Boy loop — according to Joe Budden, who praised “4PM in Calabasas” on Twitter upon hearing it, even though he feels the song disses Puffy and, perhaps, himself. Budden might’ve created tension with Drake after giving Views a lackluster review on his podcast, saying, “I felt that that kid on that album I heard sounds real fucking uninspired.” About a week later, French Montana previewed a snippet of a forthcoming collab he has with Drake, who begins his verse with, “Pump, pump it up,” perhaps a reference to Budden’s biggest hit, 2003’s “Pump It Up.”

“Sounded inspired,” Budden first tweeted about “4PM in Calabasas.” “He snapped just now, even if he dissed me and Puff the whole time,” he went on, “He ain’t sound that inspired in a minute (to me).”

Drake Performs Another Surprise Concert At Ryerson University

Drake was out and about in the 6 tonight, performing a surprise show at Ryerson University before helping the Raptors lock up a Game 7 win.

Today, one of Toronto’s biggest schools, Ryerson University, held its “6-cents” spring concert. Inspired by Drake‘s nickname for Toronto, the cost of entry was apparently only six cents for Ryerson students. The concert was hosted by Future’s right-hand man, DJ Esco, and the event promised to include “special guests.” Those who were able to scrounge up enough couch pennies to cover the ticket price were indeed treated to a special performer, as Drake, hot off the release of VIEWS, made a surprise appearance after DJ Esco’s set.

“I’m just doing this shit to prove to the rest of the world that this is the greatest city in the world,” Drake told the crowd of zealous students.

His appearance earlier this evening marks the second time this school year that Drake has made a surprise performance at a Ryerson event. During his show tonight, he performed tracks like “Jumpman,” “Energy,” and “Summer Sixteen,” as well as the VIEWS singles “One Dance” and “Pop Style,” the latter for the first time ever.

OVO Releases Full Credits To Drake’s “VIEWS”

OVO releases the “VIEWS” digital booklet, including the album’s full credits.

Drake revealed the featureless VIEWS tracklist last Wednesday (Apr. 27). In the early evening before he ended up releasing the album on Apple Music while he was on the air for a rescheduled episode of OVO Sound Radio, Drake announced most of the VIEWS features byusing memes inspired by his own album artwork. He soon shared a fairly extensive production list, which was later added to by Noah “40” Shebib. OVO has now released the entire list of VIEWS credits, listing the names of everyone involved in the recording of Drake’s fourth studio album.

The liner notes are placed carefully across various images of Drake and friends in front of curated Toronto scenes, as part of a slideshow on the OVO blog with a similar layout to a digital booklet. On the first page after the cover art, Drake dedicates the album to Megan Flores, a young girl currently undergoing cancer treatment, whom Drake visited with Rihanna in March while in Miami for an “Anti” tour date:

“This body of work is dedicated to Megan Flores. I pray for your well being every day.”

Digging into the full writing credits, there’s not a whole lot of revelatory information, but there are a few names in there worth noting. OVO/Reps Up affiliate Baka Not Nice is given a vocal credit for “Hype,” as is Irish singer James Vincent McMorrow. Jeremih has background vocals on “With You,” the breezy R&B collab featuring PartyNextDoor. On the standout “Still Here,” D. Carter is given a writing credit — did Dwayne Carter, aka Lil Wayne, help Drizzy with some of those bars?
